Snoballs

This sweet treat will definitely help you stay cool during the hot summer months.  You can find Snoball stands all over New Orleans.  The original Snoball was created in 1936 with the “Sno Wizard” machine in New Orleans.  Check out this video on What Makes Snoballs So Special?  You can find the original SnoWizard snoball at 4001 Magazine St.

Hansen’s Snobliz is another gem that has been a part of the New Orleans community for 82 years.  The white building at 4801 Tchoupitoulas St. usually has a line down the street with people of all ages waiting for their turn to get this delicious treat.  Hansen’s offers delicious syrup flavors like strawberry, nectar, and wedding cake (and many more).  Hansen’s Snobliz makes all of their syrups in house.  This snoball stand is still family owned and operated.

New Orleans Style Daiquiris

Imagine our daiquiri as the snoball’s older brother with a little extra zing.  The classic cocktail was created in Daiquiri, Cuba by an American engineer.  Jennings Stockton Cox used the ingredients he had available to him: rum, lime, and sugar.  New Orleans style daquiris come in many flavors and you can find them just about anywhere around town. These frozen treats are sure to cool you off this summer and beyond.

Bourrée offers seasonal fresh fruit daiquiris that change all year-round- except for one.  Their gin and tonic daiquiri is a staple on their menu since cucumbers can be found in Louisiana every day.  Bourrée is also known for their wings so don’t miss the opportunity to grab a snack while you cool off.

Daiquiri shops can be found from Uptown to Downtown in New Orleans and everywhere in between.  New Orleans and Company has put a list together of daiquiri shops for you to try but please remember to drink responsibly!

Pools

New Orleans gets hot.  Period.  Our hospitality leaders KNOW this and are here to solve our problems. Many hotels offer day passes to use their pool even if you are not staying at the Hotel.  You can make reservations in advance to the Hyatt Centric French Quarter Hotel, The Windsor Court Hotel, or The W Hotel French Quarter by going to Resortpass.com.  You will have access to the pool, and you will be able to order food and drinks from the hotel restaurant.  On Saturdays, you can listen to New Orleans’ own Khris Royal pool side at The W Hotel French Quarter.

The Chloe Uptown also has a great pool in their “backyard tropical oasis.”  They offer daily use of the pool with reservations made on their website.  Adults receive a complimentary cocktail with their reservation and use of a lounge chair.  Day use reservations are available from 11 AM-3 PM and 5 PM – 9 PM.

Indoor Activities with Air Conditioning

If being outdoors or hanging out by the pool is not for you- that’s totally ok.  New Orleans has plenty of indoor activities with air conditioning.

JAMNOLA is an interactive art exhibit that allows you to see, hear, and feel New Orleans culture.  This exhibit has twelve rooms that feature over twenty New Orleans artists.  You will want to make sure that your phone is fully charged as JAMNOLA has curated photo stations for insta-worthy photos.  JAMNOLA warms your soul while keeping you cool inside their air-conditioned gallery.

The National World War II Museum can also keep you cool while giving you deeper insight on the “war that changed the world.”  The museum is on a six-acre campus in downtown New Orleans.  There are five pavilions that will educate you on the history of World War II from the Pacific to Europe and beyond.  The World War II Museum is a great way to cool off, but also a beautiful way to learn about the history of America’s role in the war.
