Father’s Day BBQ and Brewery Tour
Happy Father’s Day, dads! It’s almost time to celebrate your day! We have put together a New Orleans brewery and barbecue “tour” for you and your family…or you and your friends…or even just you to experience this weekend or beyond. It’s your holiday, you decide how and who you want to spend it with!

Mid-City Must-Haves
We’ll start in Mid-City, New Orleans. We have two stops on this neighborhood crawl. Secondline Brewing is a Women, Veteran, and Minority owned brewery. They have a beautiful outdoor beer garden for you to sip on a pint of Saison Named Desire or one of their other local brews. When you start to get hungry head on over to Blue Oak BBQ on N. Carrollton. Two friends started Blue Oak in 2012 and they landed at their current Mid-City location in 2016. Blue Oak is a wonderful supporter of the New Orleans community. They’ve been able to raise over $100,000 in annual barbecue cook off events for Hogs for the Cause.
Bywater Bites & Brews
Now let’s head to the Bywater neighborhood for some more beer and barbecue! Parleaux Beer Lab is a destination neighborhood taproom and micro-brewery. Their beers rotate and are constantly changing. You can follow them on social media to keep up with their revolving beers. From there, you can grab some BBQ only a block away. The Joint has been a Bywater staple since 2004. They are “always smokin’.” The Joint has some of the best smoked brisket, smoked chicken, and sausage in NOLA. You can’t leave The Joint without their house-made coleslaw, baked beans, or mac cheese – just treat yourself and get all three!
French Quarter Favorite
We are going to head upriver to the French Quarter for this next segment. Crescent City Brewhouse is the only microbrewery in the French Quarter. They have four German style beers that Crescent City Brewhouse ensures are made according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. What is great about these four beers is that you can get a sampler and try all four! Grab a pint of your favorite and enjoy your day on the balcony overlooking Decatur Street. Crescent City Brewhouse also offers delicious menu items. Keep them in mind for private events- they have space for any occasion: corporate events, social events, and more. We’re only halfway through our “tour” but if you need to check out the second half another day, we won’t judge you.
Central City Sips
Just outside of downtown, New Orleans is Central City BBQ. It was started by two friends in 2016. BBQ and friends just seem to go together in NOLA! The Pitmaster for Central City BBQ is a 3-time Grand Champion Winner at one of our favorite local events, Hogs for the Cause. They have a great indoor/outdoor space for you to enjoy some ribs or their award-winning smoked wings. They also have a great variety of local beers if you just want to stay in one place.
What’s Going Down Uptown
We will keep moving towards Uptown and head to the Mississippi riverbend. NOLA Brewing was started after Hurricane Katrina when the founder read the back of a Dixie Beer bottle (now Faubourg Brewery) and learned the beer was being brewed in Wisconsin at the time. He decided to bring beer making back to New Orleans and opened NOLA Brewing. They have a great tap room and an upstairs patio overlooking the docks on the Mississippi River. They also have some beers with great names like, Hopitoulas, Syncopation, and a series called NOLA Funk because we always keep it funky in New Orleans! They’re also a fantastic venue for events in New Orleans so take it all in while you’re there in case you have a milestone birthday or corporate event to plan!
Our last stop (if you’ve stayed with us this far) is right up the street. Port Orleans Brewing Co., “master brewed beers below sea level.” On Tchoupitoulas Street (say that 3 times fast), Port Orleans Brewing Co. was opened to create the finest selection of craft beers. Since this has been a long tour feel free to grab a six-pack and head back home with them. You can even order them online before you get to the brewery.
