Tomato Fest is in Town
Get excited because this Saturday and Sunday (June 10-11) will be the 31st Annual French Market Creole Tomato Festival. Whether you or not you like tomatoes, the Creole Tomato is unique to Louisiana. It only makes sense that we celebrate it. The two-day festival will include live music, cooking contests and demonstrations, a second line and of course a Creole Tomato Parade.
The festival reaches all the way from Esplanade Avenue to St. Peter Street and offers not one but two music stages where you can get your groove on. There will be live music from bands like Daria & the Hip Drops, Gina Brown, Big Daddy O, and Little Freddie King. So put on your dancing shoe and get ready to move.
Make sure you are there on Saturday at 1:30pm where the “Best of the Fest” Bloody Mary and food booth will be announced!! There are four categories that people can win: healthiest, most creative, most traditional use of creole tomato, and tastiest. The Bloody Marys can win based on garnish, most creative, best mix, and overall taste. This is something you are not going to want to miss out on. Plus while you walk around the festival you can judge for yourself who is the “Best of the Fest” to see if you agree with the official judges.
Saturday looks like a beautiful sunny day, but you might have to grab your umbrella on Sunday. Either way get out there and enjoy the fest!
